Provost Guard

 

 

 

Potentate Sil Braide organized the Provost Guard Unit while he was Potentate in 1952 and Lou Aleksich was elected the first Marshal of the unit. Since then the Provost Guard Unit has been active in the security and safety of all during their activities within the Shrine building. They are also available at the auditorium for help and to answer questions during the Basketball Games, Shrine Circus, Dances and additional events as scheduled and their presence requested.

 

 

 

While a new Potentate is elected each year, the Provost Guard has several members with 25 years or more membership in the unit. The uniforms have changed over the years but the hearts of these individuals remain the same in their pride of belonging to this unit. This is evident through the many tasks presented to the Provost Guard and their ability to always work together to accomplish them.

 

 

 

This unit has grown in the past few years to over 32 active members participating in the Provost assignments as well as sharing their time and efforts with other units within the Al Bedoo Shrine organization. Marshal Ron Prindle has been instrumental in that growth and development of this unit into the dedicated and respected Provost Guard today.

 

 

With his retirement this year the Unit continues to move forward and maintain its involvement in the ongoing business and safety of the Shrine activities. The Provost Guard is a working unit and the current members and those looking to join all become an integral part by contributing to the goals through our volunteering efforts. In return we share camaraderie and support for our input and concerns and invariably find a great deal of fun along the way.

 

 

The Provost Guard Unit holds it meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 7 PM in the evening. In addition to the job of coordinating and planning for each year’s responsibilities, a Summer Picnic and a December Christmas Dinner Party are welcome dates on our calendar. The membership works together as a team in both the decision making process and the lay out of the duties accepted for this Unit. Each member receives a cap, jacket and shirt(s) as Provost uniforms upon contributing a minimum number of hours to the Unit’s functions.
